Benjamin Reding, born 1969 in Dortmund, started to study archeology and art history in Bochum in 1988. During his time at university, he already started to work as a freelance reporter for WDR in Cologne and made his first acting experiences at the student"s theater at Bochum"s Ruhr-Universität and at N.N.-Theater in Cologne from 1990 on. Only one year later, he became an assistant director for children"s and youth theatre at Schauspielhaus Bochum. From 1993 to 1995, he attended professional actor"s training at Hochschule für darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart.

Immediately after graduating with a diploma, Reding became a cast member of Stuttgart"s Staatstheater. Besides his theatre work, he also works as a radio play speaker for NDR and WDR, among other stations. After having co-directed short films with his twin brother Dominik Reding between 1995 and 1997, the Reding brothers took on their first feature film project in 1997: The poetic drama "Oi! Warning" (1999) that is located in the skinhead scene won critical respect and received the award of the 1999 Film Festival "Max Ophüls Preis", among other awards. Seven years later, the two brothers presented their second film for the movie screen, "Für den unbekannten Hund", blending a melodrama with a social background study.
