Wolfgang Lauenstein was born in 1962 and has been working with his twin-brother Christoph in stop-motion animation since 1980. In 1985, Wolfgang began studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg. Their films include: "Die Freundin" ("The Girlfriend", 1980), "Der Abstecher" ("The Sidetrip", 1984), "Pithecanthropus Erectus" (1986) and "Balance", which won an Academy Award for Best Animated Short in 1989.
